LONDON (AFX) - Leading shares were firmer midmorning pushed higher by bid speculation generated in the Sunday press regarding William Morrison possibly being targeted by a private equity consortium, and also bolstered by positive manufacturing figures, dealers said.

London police say terror plots foiled
London's police have foiled at least three terrorist plots since the suicide attacks on the city's mass transit system a year ago, and now have about 70 active investigations, the head of the Anti-Terrorist Branch said Monday.
